I will not get into a fight between Bolsonaro and Lula, says reporter – 07/04/2023 – Market

Rapporteur for the tax reform in the Chamber, deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB) said this Tuesday (4th) to mayors that he will not let the proposal “be contaminated with radical politics” and that one should not enter into the conflict between the former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

The statements were given on the same day that the PL released a note, signed by Bolsonaro, with harsh criticism of the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) of the tax reform and signaling that the acronym should guide a vote against the proposal in the Chamber.

In his speech during a CNM (National Confederation of Municipalities) event in Brasília, Aguinaldo defended tax reform as a project of interest to the country, focusing on municipalities, states and the Brazilian economy.

“This is not a political party reform, this is not a reform of the right, nor of the left, nor of the center. This is a reform of Brazil. This is a reform that I will not get into a fight between Bolsonaro and Lula, nor with anyone. We are thinking about the municipalities, states and the economy of our country”, he said.

“We are not going to allow it to be contaminated with radical politics, because we have no interest in it. We have to think about our country. I am not here defending A, nor defending B. This is a proposal that was born in Parliament and is being built with the municipalities and with the States and discussing with the Union. It is a proposal of interest to the country”, he added.
