‘I may be horrible, but the other one is terrible’, says Bolsonaro – 01/14/2024 – Power

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) published a video this Sunday (14) saying that he may be “a horrible guy”, but that “the other guy is terrible”, in a reference to President Lula (PT).

The comparison he made comes days after the repercussion of speeches by the president of his party, Valdemar da Costa Neto, praising the PT member.

The PL president was attacked by Bolsonaro supporters on social media and, this Saturday (13), he said he was “loyal to Bolsonaro”, faithful to his principles and, although he praised Lula, he stated that his statements were taken out of context.

In the video published this Sunday, recorded during a visit to the city of Angra dos Reis (RJ), Bolsonaro did not mention Valdemar, but sought to compare his government with that of Lula.

In addition to talking about the country’s economic situation, he questioned the change in relation to arms policy and Brazilian foreign policy.

“We’re in the same boat, folks. If anyone here voted for the PT, it might be true: there’s no comparison, I might be a horrible guy, but the other guy is terrible.”

Declared ineligible by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) last year for lies and attacks on the electoral system in 2022, Bolsonaro stated that Brazil has a hole of almost R$200 billion. “You are the ones who will pay this bill,” he told the supporters who accompanied him.

The official number, however, will only be released by the Treasury at the end of January. At the end of December, the Secretary of the National Treasury, Rogério Ceron, said he expected the central government to close 2023 with a primary deficit accumulated in 12 months of approximately R$125 billion.

Regarding foreign policy, Bolsonaro accused the PT of being an ally of Hamas and said that “he does not recognize Hamas as terrorists”. In October, Lula stated that Hamas committed acts of terrorism when it invaded Israel on October 7 and that it, in turn, reacted in an “insane way” by continuously bombing the Gaza Strip since then.

The president of Bolsonaro’s party reported having become the target of attacks since Friday (12) due to an interview he gave in December to the newspaper O Diário, in the region of Mogi das Cruzes (SP).

In the video, Valdemar states that Lula has prestige and is a phenomenon for “getting where he is.”

In an interview with Sheet Also on Friday, he said he was misunderstood and called the content circulating “fake”. Not because he denies the praise, but because he considers that the excerpt from the interview, given last month, was taken out of context.

“What I said about Lula, I said because it’s true. If I don’t tell the truth, I lose credibility, which is what I have left in politics. No one can deny that he was a good president. He elected Dilma [Rousseff]. But I was making a comparison: Lula has prestige, Bolsonaro has something that no one on the planet has, charisma.”

A Sheet Valdemar praised Lula’s choice to appoint retired STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister Ricardo Lewandowski to the Ministry of Justice.

The leader of Jair Bolsonaro’s party classified Lewandowski as a good man with firm behavior.

“Lewandowski had everything he needed to go to the Ministry of Justice. He is prepared, a good man, a man who has always behaved firmly. [Lula] Correct, how not. As in the case of [Cristiano] Zanin, wasn’t that a good suggestion?”, he said.
