Human rights minister criticized council after note against BC – 05/08/2023 – Panel

The Minister of Human Rights, Sílvio Almeida, complained to the then president of Conanda (National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents), Ariel de Castro, about an alleged lack of articulation by the body after the release of a critical note to the president of the Bank Center, Roberto Campos Neto.
Formed by government and civil society representatives, Conanda is an independent entity.
On February 16, the council published a note repudiating a speech by Campos Neto to Roda Viva. In the program, he praised the pix, giving as an example the fact that even children who sold products in restaurants accepted this form of payment.
As the Mônica Bergamo column showed, Conanda considered that Campos Neto naturalized child labor in the country.
The following day, the minister charged Castro, who was also Secretary for Children and Adolescents in the portfolio.
Almeida did not complain about the content of the note itself, but “determined” that he be notified in advance about future positions that could have an impact on the government. He said there needed to be more internal articulation on Castro’s part.
Although he reinforced that Conanda would continue to be independent, Almeida said that the ministry was in a moment of affirmation within the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva administration, and that it was necessary to proceed with care.
The then secretary replied to the hierarchical superior who took all precautions and that the note was a request from civil society entities represented in Conanda. He also mentioned that there was unanimity in the decision.
He was fired last week after a long attrition process. As the Panel showed, one of the episodes that displeased Almeida was the fact that a meeting between the then secretary and the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, on child protection, was scheduled without prior knowledge of the ministerial cabinet.
Sought, the minister’s advisory did not manifest itself until the publication of this text.
