How about an Easter cake? – 03/20/2024 – Gross Kitchen

“The man who admits defeat demonstrates his greatness.” I saw this quote online, but I don’t remember exactly where or from whom. Or it could be that I’m making up a story just to clean up my act.

We will never know.

We will only know that my attempt to be interactive flopped. I tried to be an auditorium entertainer – an expression that already gives away my age – and received silence from the audience.

Almost no one responded to my attempted Bizarre Easter Eggs poll. All good. That’s not me. I don’t have the Tadeu Schmidt vocation in my blood.

Masssss…

I had a plan B about the weird egg thing.

Last year in London, I found myself surrounded by bolovos on all sides. There they are called scotch eggs.

In one of my investigations, I wanted to know if Easter cake existed. They exist! And in droves.

In general, it is a simulacrum of an egg (made with confectionery ingredients) encased in chocolate. But there is one that won me over for its boldness.

In 2022, Colman’s – a traditional English condiment company – launched an Easter cake made with chicken eggs, lamb meat and mint sauce on the side.

The “Easter” is because Jesus is nicknamed the lamb of God. Lamb was the animal sacrificed in offerings in ancient Judaism. And we know what happened to Jesus that week in 1 AD.

According to the scriptures, obviously.

Anyway: then I searched for “Easter cake” on Google in Brazil and saw that there are attempts to make the game happen with eggs filled with chocolate or carrot cake.

Nothing as disruptive as the English Easter cake made with lamb.

Which, by the way, appears to have been discontinued.

I wonder why?
