History teacher tries to convince that Hamas is not a terrorist group

A history teacher at Colégio Anchieta, a traditional school in Porto Alegre, run by Jesuits, tried to convince students in the 9th year of elementary school that Hamas was not a terrorist group, but just “a political group”, in a class held this Monday. fair (30). Video images (see at the end), which went viral on social media, begins with the professor citing news released by Hamas that Israel was responsible for bombing a hospital in Gaza, a fact denied by Jews. “You bombing hospitals where civilians die can also be seen as a terrorist action, however, you call Israel a terrorist?” According to the professor, Israel would be attacking Gaza due to a “political difference”, without mentioning the atrocities committed by members of Hamas.

The students responded by saying that Jews were trying to recover hostages and responding to a series of raids by Hamas terrorists, with rapes and deaths of innocent civilians, including babies.

At this point, the professor mixes the terrorist actions of Hamas with the rest of the Palestinian people and says that the “Hamas political group” would only have responded to previous offensives by Israel. And that the students were taking sides without knowing the whole story. “I’m just showing you that this view that Israel is right and the Palestinians are wrong is a mistaken view.”

The father of the student who recorded the video says that his daughter, upon arriving home from school, reported that one of her friends, who is Jewish and a classmate, was present when the teacher began to question Israel’s reaction to terrorism. Hamas. The Jewish girl began recording the class to send to her mother, but was stopped by the teacher, who removed her from the class and sent her to speak to the school administration. Unsatisfied with the situation, her colleague started recording without attracting the teacher’s attention. With the images in hand, the parents went to the school to demand some action from the school, but so far the institution has not commented.

Former councilor Valter Nagelstein pointed out on his Instagram profile that this same teacher said five years ago that “Jews were a problem in the world”, a statement also recorded on video by the students. According to Valter, the school administration said it would take action, but nothing happened.

On the school’s social networks, many parents of students and former students are angry with the school’s lack of positioning. In one of the publications, a former student of the school commented: “Waiting for some action regarding what happened. I am a former student and last week I enrolled my son. If nothing is done, we will cancel.”

Another former student is indignant. “I’m a former student, my father also studied at Anchieta, shame on what I heard from a teacher. I wonder if he was fired? My daughter will not study at a school that defends the greatest absurdity that has occurred in recent times. That’s very sad. We expect a position from the school.”

When contacted, the school did not respond to questions from Gazeta do Povo. The space is open for future demonstrations.
