Hill establishes himself as ‘algoz of Brazilians’, defeats Glover Teixeira and takes the light heavyweight belt

The big fight at UFC 283 tasted of frustration. That’s because Glover Teixeira, aged 43, rose to the octagon to face Jamahal Hill, aged 31, but ended up being yet another victim of the “executioner of Brazilians”. With the victory by unanimous decision, the American won the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg) this Saturday, at the Jeunesse Arena.

Jamahal Hill has been drawing himself as an executioner of Brazilians because he came from knockouts against Johnny Walker and Thiago Marreta, which was remembered by the Brazilians present at the Jeunesse Arena. The name of Marreta was even shouted by the fans. Glover was one more to enter the list of American victories.

At the age of 43, Glover Teixeira already deserved praise for having practically “saved” the Ultimate organization, which only defined the event’s main fight with less than a month to start. The situation is also curious because, until then, the category did not have a champion.

Jiri Prochazka, who was the lineal champion, suffered a serious shoulder injury and, due to the long time he will be away from the octagon, relinquished the belt. In December 2022, at UFC 282, the main event fight between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev would crown the new owner of the vacant belt, but it ended in a tie in the judges’ decision. Therefore, the division continued with the vacant title.

How was the fight:

The match started with Jamahal Hill connecting the blows better. The American found two knees well placed on the Brazilian. Glover tried some takedowns, but the opponent managed to dodge. The American took advantage when he found good shots.

In the second round, Glover got the upper hand when he managed to take the fight to the ground. On the ground, he controlled the opponent and connected good blows. Standing up, the American continued to have the advantage.

In the third round, Hill had everything to win by knockout. After again connecting good kicks, he took Glover to the ground and just didn’t win the fight due to a miracle from the Brazilian, who resisted and managed to defend himself. The American had a wide advantage in the fight and in the score in this third round.

In the fourth round, Glover Teixeira managed to react and raised the crowd by hitting a beautiful cross. Nothing that destabilized Hill, but it did help on the emotional side. The Brazilian started to control the center more, until he suffered with a hard sequence of blows from the American. He was left to resist until the end of the fourth round.

In the fifth round, Glover’s last breath was when he managed to take him to the ground and connect good blows, but Jamahal Hill dodged, which practically decreed the victory by unanimous decision of the arbitration.
