Health: Lula Government announces R$ 2 billion for philanthropic organizations – 04/20/2023 – Health

The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced this Thursday (20) the release of BRL 2 billion to philanthropic entities that provide services to the Unified Health System.

The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Planalto Palace, with the presence of President Lula and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. The representative did not speak at the event.

Ministers Nísia Trindade (Health), Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations) and Márcio Macêdo (General Secretariat of the Presidency) also participated, in addition to the acting president of the Senate, Veneziano Vital do Rêgo.

The resources that will be passed on seek to serve 3,288 philanthropic entities that provide health services for the SUS.

The folder argues that the sector is very relevant for the SUS, accounting for more than 60% of hospitalizations and procedures of high and medium medical complexity.

Minister Nísia Trindade also stated that the released resource is not enough, and that the government should discuss support measures for philanthropic institutions.

“We are aware that these resources are not enough. We know that these R$ 2 billion, fundamental, but insufficient, will have to be complemented with other measures”, said the minister during the event.

“We will need to deal with and support short and medium term measures, also in relation to the sector’s indebtedness”, he added. She also asked Lula for help in discussing Caixa’s support for the sector.

Nísia also mentioned the possibility of supporting changes in legislation aimed at philanthropic institutions, in addition to addressing the sector within the tax reform.

After the event, the head of Health explained the division of resources, stating that there was a complement in relation to what had already been passed on.

“What we did was complete in a single installment of BRL 1.5 billion, within a whole work plan with the philanthropic sector, which is working on our program to reduce queues, a program announced at the end of January and which now we are giving the sector a breath so that it can meet its objectives”, he said to journalists.
