Handball: Brazil beats Ukraine in the debut of the Women’s World Cup – News of Brazil

Recently champions at the Pan-American Games in Santiago (Chile), the Brazilian team faced Ukraine this Wednesday (29), in the debut of the Women’s Handball World Cup, which runs until December 17 in Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway and Sweden ).
The Lionesses – the nickname of the Brazilian women’s team – beat the Ukrainians 35-20, in Frederikshavn (Denmark), in the first match of Group G. The next duels will be on Friday (1st December) against Kazakhstan, and on Sunday (3 ) against Spain, both at 2pm (Brasília time).
In Wednesday’s game (29), left midfielder Bruna de Paula scored seven goals, being elected the best on the court by the International Handball Federation (IHF). Other highlights were right midfielder Mariana Costa, who found the net another seven times, and Adriana Cardoso with five more goals.
The World Cup brings together 32 teams divided into eight groups. The top three in each group at the end of the group stage qualify for the next stage), taking with them the scores from the three games. Whoever wins the competition in the final on December 17th guarantees an Olympic place in Paris 2024. The Lionesses already have a guaranteed presence at the Olympics, as they won gold at the Pan de Santiago.
The women’s team’s last world title was in 2013. In the last edition, in Spain (2021), the Lionesses came in sixth place and the champion at the time was Norway.
