The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, would be trying to convince the current president of the New Development Bank (NDB), Marcos Troyjo, to resign from office to appoint former president Dilma Rousseff (PT), according to information from the Valor Econômico newspaper. Troyjo’s term runs until 2025.

The change in command of the institution known as Banco do Brics, a group of countries that brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, would be due to the foreign relations that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) wants to establish with the nations.

Troyjo’s presence in office, say members of the Treasury, created a “right skirt” in the relationship with Brazil, since he was appointed by the former Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes. The president of the NBD is also a critic of Lula.

According to the newspaper’s investigation, Haddad had already spoken to him at least twice, but Troyjo resists the idea of resigning from the position, which would lead Brazil to propose a dismissal to the other member countries of the bank. He did not respond to requests for information.

On the other hand, Dilma Rousseff’s advisors stated that the possible appointment to the position is nothing more than speculation. She would have been resistant at first, as the NBD’s headquarters are in Shanghai, China. However, she changed her mind due to the current economic climate.
