The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said this Friday morning (17) that the meeting of the National Monetary Council (CMN) this Thursday (16) served to “align fiscal policy with monetary policy”. The statement was given shortly after the meeting he had in the morning with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Ministers of Social Development, Wellington Dias, and of the Civil House, Rui Costa.

The minister did not comment on whether the change in inflation targets was discussed with Roberto Campos Neto, president of the Central Bank, during the CMN meeting. Haddad just limited himself to saying that “[foi] the first good approximation with the presence of Simone [Tebet]. We had a long two-hour chat”, reports Valor Econômico.
