The decision on the possible return of the gasoline and ethanol tax, which was supposed to be decided in the morning by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), was left for the end of the afternoon when there will be a new meeting at the Planalto Palace, according to said the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, early this Monday afternoon (27).
In the morning, Haddad met with Lula and the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, at the Planalto Palace, to define whether fuels will be charged as of Wednesday (03/1), since the provisional measure that exempted the PIS and Cofins wins this Tuesday (28). If taxes are collected again, gasoline will have an immediate readjustment of R$ 0.69 per liter and ethanol of R$ 0.24 per liter.
Upon arrival at the Ministry of Finance after meeting Lula, Haddad said he was waiting for a meeting with Minister Alexandre Silveira, of Mines and Energy, before having a definition on taxes.
“We’re going to have another meeting later this afternoon. There is still a meeting between the Minister of Mines and Energy and the team and then we will return to the president. As soon as we have a definition, we will disclose it”, he said in a quick conversation with journalists.
The minister, however, did not give a specific time for the meeting with Silveira. The only meeting he himself has scheduled during the afternoon is with members of the economic team, such as the executive secretary of the folder, Gabriel Galipolo; the special secretary of the Federal Revenue, Robinson Barreirinhas; the tax policy secretary, Débora Cardoso, among others.
Minister Alexandre Silveira’s official agenda does not have any meeting scheduled for this Monday (27).
