Gustavo Mioto during a show at the Festa do Peão de Americana Júlio César Costa/g1 Gustavo Mioto was on the road, about a month ago, when he received a mission: to re-record the song “Playing to be happy”. Hit by Chitãozinho and Xororó, the track was composed by Maria da Paz and Nino and released in 1991, as part of the album “Planeta Azul” by the sertaneja duo. We recorded it just for that”, explained Mioto in an interview with g1. The sertanejo even had fun remembering that he improvised a kind of “studio” of mattresses and blankets to make the recording. “We had to record in a hurry, at the last minute. It was really funny. We didn’t have a studio at the time, and we needed to record on the road, because I was travelling.” “So we put three mattresses. One on each side and one on top closing the little house. And we put a blanket around and the microphone to make it like a studio in the room”, he said. After the voice was recorded in the small cabin with mattresses, Gustavo added a dash of forró to the beat of the song, to give his face to the classic by Chitão and Xororó. “The idea of this different beat, this slightly bigger swing on top of this song, is because of my songs, like ‘Solteiro não trai’, ‘When you turn off the light’ and others. So we wanted to put a little of my guy in music and had this idea.” Gustavo said that he has not yet spoken to Chitãozinho and Xororó to find out if the brothers liked the result and revealed that he was ashamed to do so. “I didn’t talk to them about the re-recording. And I’m even ashamed to call them. I don’t even know if I would have the face.” “It’s difficult for someone to have the courage to re-record a song that Chitãozinho and Xororó have already sung. So it was a challenge.” It is worth remembering that the opening track of “Terra e Paixão” was recorded by Ana Castela, Mioto’s girlfriend, in partnership with Chitãozinho and Xororó.
