Sister of the former Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, the president of Anup (association of private universities), Elizabeth Guedes, said that, if it were today, she would have learned to sing funk to earn money like Ludmilla, instead of dedicating herself to her studies. and get higher level.

She also stated that she would not be disputing jobs in the market, as newly graduated teachers do.

“People graduate and fight to get a job as a supermarket bagger.”

His speech goes against the standard marketing made by private institutions of higher education, which usually link the diploma to professional and financial success.

The statements were given during a seminar promoted in Brasília (DF) by the Ministry of Education (MEC) to discuss the new Fies, the student financing program, being restructured by the Lula government. The event took place on Monday (17).

For the leader, the PT government, which has Fies in its showcase, should play its part in correcting distortions that prevent needy students from accessing it.

“It’s not Fies that’s horrible,” he said. “It’s the MEC that is horrible, because it doesn’t implement the Fies law.”

For her, the Fies system should implement payment contingent on income.

“Whose responsibility is this? The MEC. He wrote the law, insisted that it be like that, and did nothing. Then, as there is no such thing, the unfortunate minimum payment was invented.”

The director refers to the possibility of the newly formed beneficiary making a quarterly payment of up to R$ 150 for a year and a half and, only after that, having the outstanding balance of the Fies paid in installments.

The law provides that there would be regulation of a post-graduation payment linked to the income of the recent graduate (the contingency).

Elizabeth Guedes stated that default in the program today is calculated on the minimum amount and this generates distortion for education networks – the smaller ones bear proportionately higher contribution rates.

“Comply with the law. Implement the contingent payment. This is a matter of political will, which no minister has had so far.”

Fies was one of the favorite targets of former minister Paulo Guedes to attack the subsidy policy of the PT governments.

Under his management, the program suffered contingencies without the distortions being corrected.

Led by Guedes, the economic team did not proceed with the regulation of the Fies law, as its sister demands today.

Behind the scenes, this was the criticism made by the current management of the MEC to the position of the leader of Anup.
Before taking office, Guedes was a partner in an asset manager that invested in private higher education networks that had their earnings boosted with Fies in PT governments.
At the end of the presentation, Gregório Grisa, program director of the Executive Secretariat of the MEC, stated that the government is working on improving the Fies. He reinforced that the program involves Finance, Planning, Management, Cities and the Civil House.
