GTA 6: see memes and reactions to the RockStar game trailer – 12/05/2023 – #Hashtag

The video game “GTA” is the most talked about topic on X (formerly Twitter), this Tuesday (5), after the sixth game in the RockStar franchise received its first trailer. The official release of the video was brought forward to Monday night (4) after a leak of the material and it already has more than 70 million views on YouTube.

On Elon Musk’s social network, the franchise exceeded 1 million mentions this Tuesday (5), thanks to the excitement of fans and enthusiasts who scrutinized details of the new title, in addition to spreading many jokes and memes.

The games in the franchise always revolve around the world of crime and the plots have anti-heroes as protagonists who — by will, chance or vocation — commit everything from small thefts in alleys to cinematic assaults on military installations.

Each edition takes place in a fictional city, whose maps (where the player is free to move around and commit crimes of all types) strongly resemble large North American cities, such as New York (Liberty City, in GTA 4) and Los Angeles (Los Santos, in GTA 5).

But the similarities are not limited to geography. GTA extracts many of the elements that make up the game from the US culture and daily life, all packed with satirical verve, which criticizes the country’s social problems, such as immigration, social inequality, racism and the very idea of the “American dream”.

GTA 6 marks the return of Vice City, the game’s version for Miami. The protagonists will be the criminal couple Jason and Lucia, the first female character in charge of the game.

One of the most talked about aspects among internet users is the fact that the trailer contains references to real, and bizarre, events that took place in the United States. The cases have gone viral on the country’s social media in recent years or have been reported by the press.

In one of the sections, the trailer shows, for example, a character holding two hammers in his hands. It’s a likely reference to a 2020 viral video filmed in Los Angeles that shows a white woman hitting a neighbor’s car with a hammer. On the internet, she became known as the “hammer lady”.

Another scene shows a character who wears a prison uniform and has paintings and tattoos on his face. He is pointed out as an allusion to the “Florida joker”, a boy who became famous in the country after he was arrested and his “mug shot” – the prisoner’s registration image – went viral due to the man’s resemblance to the character Joker, the villain of superhero stories.

The video also features another curious section in which a crocodile invades a supermarket. The scene actually occurred in 2013, also in Florida. The animal tried to enter a Wallmart store, but was stopped by employees.

Internet users also played with invented references.

In the trailer it is also possible to see scenes of characters at parties in nightclubs, beaches and swimming pools. The graphics of the new game were praised by many internet users.
