The interim minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), Ricardo Cappelli, said this Thursday (20) that the future of the body, in particular whether it will be commanded by civilian or military personnel, will be defined after the return of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who will make an official trip to Europe.
“That doesn’t exist at the moment. We are gathering information and we will present an assessment when the president returns from his trip. More important than civil, military, are the definitions, attributions, the institutional role. We have been having this discussion and is fully in tune with both civilians and the Army command,” he said.
Capelli took over the post due to the resignation of General Gonçalves Dias, who left office after the revelation of images showing that he was in the Planalto Palace while invaders plundered the place one floor below.
Images released by CNN Brasil show that the vandals received water from the military and greeted GSI agents during the attacks.
Dias was Lula’s security guard in the first two PT terms in the Executive. At the time, he approached and gained the confidence of the president, which earned him the nomination to be GSI minister in 2023.
