GSI removes military personnel after leaking information from Lula to Mauro Cid

The Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI) removed the military agents involved in the alleged leak of official information on the travels of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant to former President Jair Bolsonaro ( PL).

The case came to light on Wednesday (9) after investigations by the metropolises It’s from G1 reveal that Cid was receiving messages from a distribution list on the agency’s computers, and that he was aware of procedures regarding Lula’s travels to various official events. Among the commitments are visits to Beijing and Shanghai, China; Brasilia; Foz do Iguaçu (PR) and Boa Vista (RR).

According to investigations, the leaked messages would have come from three GSI soldiers: Márcio Alex da Silva, from the Army; Dione Jefferson Freire and Rogério Dias Souza, both from the Navy. The agency stated that it is setting up an internal investigation to investigate the facts.

“The aforementioned military personnel were removed from work and, if the investigation finds responsibilities, they will be dismissed from the Presidency of the Republic”, said the GSI in a note to People’s Gazette.

In a document sent to the CPMI of the acts of January 8, the body said that the deactivation of Mauro Cid’s account in the government system was delayed “due to the exponential accumulation of accreditation activities during the transition to the new government”, on the 15th of March. His mailbox was permanently deleted on May 30th after performing a backup.

The GSI claims that there were 1,100 dismissals between December 2022 and January 2023, with the accreditation and de-accreditation of accounts being done by only two people at the time.

“After a server shutdown, the team responsible for accreditation performs the procedure for disabling the network login and, after executing the full backup [completo] from the message box, its deletion. It is important to highlight that the process in question is manual, subject to the occurrence of failures”, completed the body in the document obtained by Folha de São Paulo.

The folder also said that the process of deactivating email accounts of former presidential servants is being automated “so that it no longer depends on human action”. “With this, possible inconsistencies will be avoided”, he concluded.
