The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, said this Wednesday (14th) that the government will send the “fuel of the future” bill to Congress next week. Silveira announced the initiative during the event “Leading the Future of Electrification in Brazil”, promoted by the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea).

The project is under development at the Civil House and should establish a “framework for sustainable low-carbon mobility with actions to decarbonize different modes of transport, such as aviation,” the ministry said in a note. According to the portfolio, this “legal framework seeks to combat greenhouse gas emissions with the integration of different public policies such as RenovaBio and Rota 2030”.

“We want more technology in our biofuels, more efficiency, more productivity in the field, more sustainability in the chain. All of this to guarantee the generation of jobs and income, lower prices for consumers and a reduction in the carbon footprint. We have already included this look in the Fuel of the Future PL, which is in the final stages of being improved by the Civil House and will be the largest decarbonization program in the world”, said the minister.

Silveira highlighted the importance of vehicle electrification for automotive decarbonization. “Electric mobility, without a doubt, is and will be one of the main fronts for decarbonizing transport. We master the technology, but we need to ensure scale, increasing competitiveness and making this reality accessible to Brazilians,” he said.
