Statement by President Lula during the launching of the Safra Plan
Brasilia DF) – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said this Wednesday (28) that he wants to resume the policy of minimum prices for agricultural products and that, in situations of falling prices due to super harvests, for example, the government should buy surplus food. “Many times, we will encourage you to plant certain things. But if there is excess production, we have to pay for it”.
“You are going to plant and we are going to guarantee a minimum price so that nobody suffers losses in their crop. We cannot encourage you to plant. Then, you plant, the price drops and you can’t even pay what you spent to plant. We will treat it very seriously and with great respect.”
During the launch of the Crop Plan for Family Agriculture, at the Planalto Palace, Lula also mentioned the work of the National Supply Company (Conab).
“I hope that now Conab, in the hands of small and medium-sized agriculture, can really take care of the buffer stock. So that we can ensure that there is no longer a lack of food in this country and that the price does not increase exorbitantly”.
