Government says it will not tax internet users to fund agency

The federal government announced on Thursday night (13) that it will not tax internet use in the country. The government demonstration takes place after the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo disclose that the Institutional Security Office (GSI) intends to present a project to tax internet users to fund the creation of a cybersecurity agency, which will cost around R$ 600 million annually.
In a note, the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic stated “that there is no possibility of taxing internet users to finance a cybersecurity agency or any initiative of this type”. In the social mediathe chief minister of Secom, Paulo Pimenta, also said “that the issue was never known or discussed by President Lula”.
The project, according to the GSI, has already been presented to the Ministries of Justice, Finance, Planning, Science and Technology and Management. The text should be sent for analysis by the Civil House and then to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
