Federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR), who had his mandate revoked by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), said this Tuesday (30) that the federal government “pretends to democracy, but rolls out the rug for dictators”. The declaration took place after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolás Maduro, and was made from the tribune of the Chamber of Deputies.

“This is what we increasingly see happening in this government, which pretends to be democracy, but which rolls out the rug for dictators. Which pretends to be democracy, but is silent in the face of abuses,” he said.

Left-wing deputies questioned the fact that Dallagnol was on the platform to speak, since he had his mandate revoked. “I am very concerned that some deputies on the left pay lip service to democracy,” said the former Lava Jato prosecutor. During Dallagnol’s speech there were reactions against and in favor of the congressman.

The deputy said that the Board of Directors of the Chamber will have the “opportunity” to respond against the “injustice” when analyzing his defense, filed this Tuesday. He stated that Brazil is experiencing an imbalance of Powers, with a Judiciary exceeding its functions.

“Today I received a subpoena from the Federal Police to testify, but this went beyond parliamentary prerogatives when designating the day and time. This arbitrary decision, which you are celebrating, did not even say if I am a witness or if I am being investigated,” he said.
