Government of Amazonas invested more than R$23 million in sport

Incentive aimed at the sector, enabled advances in programs such as Pelci, RespirAR, and sponsorship of professional football clubs

Manaus (AM) – With a financial contribution, exceeding the R$23.5 million mark, the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel) has encouraged state sport, promoting inclusion, revealing talents and boosting high performance.

With more than 15 thousand athletes, the Sports and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci) is present in 62 centers, 35 in the capital and 27 centers in the interior of the state, operating with a further 13 modalities. The program is divided into seven hubs, in the cities of Manaus, Tabatinga, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Humaitá, Codajás, Envira and Fonte Boa.

The financial contribution of R$6 million to Pelci enabled the expansion and improvement of activities, creating new centers and expanding the offer of sports. Highlights for the Footvolley in the Neighborhoods, Training Champions and Village Champions projects.

The program has worked on integrating the base with the professional, with the participation of 1,100 women enrolled in field football and futsal classes, in Manaus and in the interior. Through the Training Champions project, the Women’s Self-Defense Course was made available, serving more than 400 women, in the capital and interior.

Recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the RespirAR program acts as an important tool in the treatment and prevention of muscular, cardiac and orthopedic injuries and combating a sedentary lifestyle in Amazonas. The program received an investment of R$5 million this year, being expanded to the Carlos Zamith, Ismael Benigno and Oswaldo Frota stadiums. With physiotherapy and physical activity services, operating in 14 centers.

Champion Flight

With more than R$1.5 million allocated to the “Vôo Campeão” project, the Government of Amazonas made it possible for Amazonian athletes to participate in national and international competitions. There were 292 tickets issued, a total of 127 athletes covered, in 27 modalities.

Sponsorship of professional football clubs

With the unprecedented financial contribution of R$7.5 million to Amazonian professional football teams, transferred to the Amazonense Football Federation (FAF), the Wilson Lima government boosted the performance of men’s and women’s football clubs.

With the support of the Government of Amazonas since 2021, Amazonas FC won a national title for the state and historic access to Series B 2024, women’s football in Amazonas was also boosted, reaching national prominence.

State Sports Scholarship

In 2023, the Bolsa Sport Estadual, sponsorship offered by the Government of Amazonas, through Sedel, included 131 athletes and para-athletes, divided into the basic, high-performance and Olympic/Paralympic categories. Covering more than 30 sports, with 124 athletes in the capital and 7 in the interior, 86 men and 44 women.

Olympics 2024

The Amazonas Project at the Paris 2024 Olympics aims to guarantee representatives from Amazonas in the next Olympic cycle. There are 19 athletes, 16 Olympic and 3 Paralympian, who are being monitored by a technical team and in 2023 alone they have won more than 100 medals, nine international, 18 national and 74 regional titles. Highlights include athletes Lucas dos Santos, from weightlifting, and Pedro Nunes, from javelin throw, who achieved gold and silver, respectively, at the Parapan and Pan-American Games, in Santiago 2023.
