Government of Amapá encourages sports practice and inclusion during Paralympic Festival at Unifap – News of Brazil

To provide opportunities and encourage the practice of sports and the inclusion of children, adolescents and young people, with disabilities or not, through adapted modalities, the Government of Amapá, in partnership with the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), promoted on Saturday (23) on the track of athletics at the Federal University of Amapá (Unifap), in Macapá, the 2023 Paralympic Festival.

The event, coordinated by the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), brought together a team of physical education teachers who led activities with simulation of Paralympic modalities to guarantee participants, which this year included around 20% of the public without disabilities , a playful and inclusive experience.

For Marcos Nunes, acting secretary of Sedel, practicing sports and encouraging para-athletes is just beginning. “The Government of Amapá, through Sedel, brought a vast team of physical educators trained in encouraging parasports. At these events we can discover hitherto hidden talents and talk to families so that they understand that practice increasingly improves skills, but above all encourages the practice of sport”he concluded.

The festival program also celebrated the National Day of Struggle for People with Disabilities, celebrated on September 21st, and National Paralympic Athlete Day, celebrated on September 22nd.

Athletes and para-athletes from Macapá and Santana participated free of charge in the most varied activities and were able to meet the medalists of the Amapá Paralympic Team, who brought 84 medals at the Regional Paralympic School Games, held in Belém, in August. Among them, highlights include Wanna Brito and Yuri, who were honored with applause.

World runner-up in the shot put and Brazilian record holder, Wanna Brito, 27 years old, who was born with cerebral palsy and was recently a silver medalist in the para-athletics world championship in Paris, France, says that nothing stopped her from chasing her goals. goals.

“I don’t know if when my parents received the news that I had cerebral palsy they imagined that I could be successful, be a photo model, graduate in physiotherapy and become runner-up in the world shot put champion. In fact, I had the 3rd best mark in the world and broke 2 Brazilian records in my category. And thanks to my parents I always had encouragement in everything and never gave up. And there’s much more to come. Everyone needs to believe that sport changes lives, it changed mine and will continue to change the lives of many. And it all can start at an event like this”highlighted the para-athlete alongside her coach Marlon Costa.

Deborah Mouramother of para-athlete Aninha, makes a point of highlighting, with great pride, her daughter’s progress through sport: “I always follow everything, especially in training, people are surprised when they discover that even though she uses a wheelchair, she already has several medals in shot put. And look, sometimes I need to put her to rest because if I do, she’ll be training straight away and you need to have balance.”said the proud mother.

For Yndiraima Cunha, Medalist para-athlete and president of the Amapá Parasports Federation (FPA), member of the Brazilian Paralympic Reference Center (CRPB), the event serves as a “kick-off” for new programs in the state.

“Until recently we didn’t have events and today it is a great happiness to be able to see all these people here, children having their first contact with Paralympic sport and we, as veteran para-athletes, are following and seeing these revelations that will engage the Federation, in the Associations together with us. Amapá is a great source of para-athletes and will certainly be much more”, celebrated the president.
