Government leader says Haddad wants new rule to relieve payroll

The leader of the government in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), said this Monday (12) that the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, is preparing a proposal with new rules for payroll exemptions. The government’s new proposal is expected to be presented in the second half of the year. The topic should be evaluated by the Economic Affairs Commission (CAE) this Tuesday (13). The senator advocates that the project be withdrawn from the agenda.

“As these payroll exemptions, in the case of these 17 segments, last until December 31 and as Minister Fernando Haddad intends to present this payroll framework in the second half, I am not even saying that we are against or in favor [do projeto da CAE]. What we want is to wait for what will be conceived”, said Wagner, informed Poder360.

“This measure was extended for 1 year, then extended for 2 years, now they want to extend it for 4 years. I think that the temporary turn to definitive is not the best solution for the Brazilian economy. But I respect colleagues. I’m going to CAE and tomorrow I’ll state the government’s position. If the senators agreed, I would ask that it be held,” he added.

The CAE must evaluate bill 334/2023, which extends until the end of 2027 the validity of law 12,546, of 2011 on the exemption of the 17 sectors of the economy.
