The Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho, decided to extend Ordinance No. 3,665/23, which deals with commercial work on holidays, for another 90 days.

By extending the ordinance, the minister retreated from the changes that would be foreseen in a new ordinance and which would come into force on March 1, 2024. Therefore, the rule prevails that commercial employees need authorization by the Collective Labor Agreement.

The decision was taken during a meeting attended by the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, union representatives and parliamentary representatives from Commerce and Services and Entrepreneurship.

Now, the tripartite National Negotiation Table has 90 days to dialogue and reach an agreement on how the law will be determined.

“We are sure that the parties will reach a text that will cover the functioning of our trade in its entirety, always respecting the right to negotiations, the rights of employees and protecting each worker”, highlighted Luiz Marinho.

Parliamentary fronts in Congress linked to the sector will insist on voting on a bill on the topic. Upon resumption of legislative work, they delivered to the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), a request requesting urgency in voting on project 5,552/2023.
