Government ends discount program with 125,000 cars sold

The government ended, this Friday (7), the program to encourage the purchase of zero cars with a discount in the package that released R$ 800 million in tax credits. According to the balance of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), 125 thousand units were sold with discounts between R$ 2 thousand and R$ 8 thousand, or 1.7% and 11.7%.

“We had cases of much greater value reduction, 14%, 16% to 21% by the private sector, automakers and dealerships. And it was very positive because the discount was for cars up to R$ 120,000, but sales above R$ 120,000 also increased sales because it aroused interest”, said vice president and minister Geraldo Alckmin to Agência Brasil.

According to him, nine assemblers participated with the sale of 117 car models. In the last week of June, the biggest sale of the last 10 years was registered. The record in the history of the automotive industry was set for June 30, when 27,000 vehicles were licensed.

“If you take the peak of the automobile industry, it was a production of 3.8 million vehicles. That was the pinnacle. Today, production is 2.3 million”, he highlighted.

R$ 650 million of the R$ 800 million available for light vehicles were released. According to the MDIC, the remaining R$ 150 million will compensate for the loss of tax collection caused by discounts on the final price.

Overall sales rose 7.4%

A little earlier, the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) disclosed that automakers’ sales had an increase of 8.4% in June, with an increase of 9.2% for light vehicles and decreases of 1.4%. % in trucks and 7.6 in buses.

Among passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, there were 152.4 thousand units against 139.6 thousand in May.

The performance, however, did not help to increase vehicle production in the country, which plummeted 17% in the month. According to Anfavea, automakers ended up giving vent to stocks that were accumulated in the yards, of 28 thousand vehicles.

The president of Anfavea, Márcio de Lima Leite, says that of the R$ 800 million released by the government for light vehicles, R$ 710 million had already been applied by the turn of the month, resulting in discounts for around 150 thousand units. “However, only 54,000 of them were registered in June,” he said.

Leite and Alckmin said that 79,000 cars were invoiced in the last days of June and will be registered in July.

Truck sales moved slowly

As for trucks, vans and buses, the program is still in effect. The deadline is four months or until the tax credits are exhausted. The use of R$ 700 million is expected to be used for the sale of trucks and R$ 300 million for vans and buses, of which R$ 100 million and R$ 140 million have already been used, respectively.

According to Alckmin, heavy vehicles, relative to trucks, did not perform much better due to the natural increase in prices in recent years with the evolution of engines to the so-called “Euro 6”, which made prices rise from 15% to 30%. %. In practice, he says, automakers sold the “Euro 5” stock last year and sales stopped due to prices – which generated a risk of layoffs and interruption of production lines.
