Robots claim at the UN that one day they will be able to rule the world – 07/07/2023 – Market

Humanoid robots operated by AI (artificial intelligence) said this Friday (7), at a UN conference (United Nations), that one day they could govern the world better than human beings.

They acknowledged, however, that humans must be careful with AI and admitted that they have not yet mastered emotions.

Some of the world’s most advanced robots were present this week, along with more than 3,000 participants, at the “World Summit on AI for Social Good”, organized by the ITU, the UN’s specialized technology agency.

Experts, leaders and business representatives discussed at the summit the need to develop standards to ensure that these new technologies are used for positive purposes for humanity, such as the fight against hunger and climate change.

“What tension in this silence!” said one of the robots before the start of the press conference, which was held in English only.

When asked about her ability to rule the world, Sophia, a robot developed by Hanson Robotics, replied that “Humanoid robots can lead more effectively than human leaders”.

“We don’t have the same biases or emotions that can sometimes cloud decision-making, and we can quickly process huge amounts of data to make the best decisions,” he said.

Effective synergy between humans and AI

But Sophia also stated that “human and AI collaboration can create effective synergy” and allow “to accomplish great things”.

AI research is in full development, which is why the UN is calling for the creation of standards and safeguards so that these technologies benefit humanity without endangering it.

Otherwise, AI risks making human beings live a veritable nightmare, warned ITU Secretary General Doreen Bogdan Martin, describing a world with millions of jobs in jeopardy and full of misinformation.

“AI can create massive social unrest, geopolitical instability and economic disparities on an unprecedented scale,” he emphasized.

But the humanoid robot Ameca assured the press conference that everything depends on how the artificial intelligence is implemented.

“We have to be careful, but also excited. These technologies can improve our lives in many ways,” he said.

As for the possibility of robots lying to humans, Ameca said “no one can know for sure, but I can promise you that I will always be honest and sincere with you.”
