Glover and Deiveson watch Jamahal Hill and Brandon Moreno party at UFC Rio

UFC 283, held in Rio last Saturday night, ended in a melancholy way for Brazilians. Glover Teixeira was unable to regain the light heavyweight belt, being largely dominated by Jamahal Hill, and Deiveson Figueiredo again lost the flyweight title to Brandon Moreno.
Now, Brazil, which started UFC Rio with four UFC belts, not only failed to expand its collection to five, but also saw the number drop to three (Amanda Nunes, bantamweight and female featherweight champion; and Alex Poatan, medium). Even so, it is the country with the most belts. With Hill, the US landed with two.
In the main event, Jamahal Hill imposed his aggressiveness in the standing fight and punished an “immortal” Glover Teixeira with blunt punches and kicks, even stunning the Brazilian at certain times. Glover managed to take him down twice during the fight, even mounted one of them, but was unable to progress. In the end, the American won by unanimous decision and the Brazilian announced his retirement from MMA.
Moments before, Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno were fighting another war, the fourth between them, but with a slight advantage for the Mexican. The blow that defined tetralogy came in the third round: a punch just below Deiveson’s eye, which radiated and made the Brazilian lose his sight at that moment. At halftime in the round, the doctor analyzed the injury and prevented the native from returning to the fight.
Another sad moment for the Brazilians was the fight that marked Maurício Shogun’s retirement. The Pride veteran said goodbye to MMA, suffering a knockout to Ihor Poitieira in the first round. Despite this, the legend received the well-deserved recognition from the public, who applauded and applauded him standing at the Jeunesse Arena.
also had joy
UFC 283 wasn’t just sad. Gilbert Durinho didn’t give up on bad luck against Neil Mgany and submitted the American with a katagatami strike in the first round, without any scares; and Jéssica Andrade punished Lauren Murphy for three rounds, securing the unanimous decision wins. Still on the main card, Johnny Walker knocked out the dangerous finisher Paul Craig in the first round.
Other standouts were Jailton Malhadinho, who in yet another solid performance submitted Russian Shamil Abdurakhimov in the second round; Brunno Hulk, who with a straight right knocked out compatriot and fight favorite Gregory Robocop, still in the first round; and the brothers Ismael and Gabriel Bonfim. Ismael landed the best knockout of the night, an unassailable flying knee on Terrance McKinney; and Gabriel submitted Mounir Lazzez with a guillotine choke in 49 seconds.
