Carnival is already here and for those who like makeup, the season has begun to find ways to make glitter last on the skin. And given the time of year, it is to be expected that the days of revelry will be hot, but with that soul-washing rain in the late afternoon. That said, how do you make the glow last on your face?

Celebrity beauty professionals, Celso Kamura, makeup artist and owner of the C.Kamura brand, and Lavoisier, makeup expert at Eudora, answer the main questions about the subject here. A good glitter glue, skin preparation and setting mist are essential for long-lasting makeup.

Before starting, makeup artists say that you need to pay attention to the products used. “It’s important to choose ones that are suitable for use on the skin, that are non-toxic and don’t harm the skin”, says Lavoisier.

Kamura recommends using waterproof, highly durable and non-transfer options, as well as avoiding creamy products. It’s also worth “carrying some in your bag or fanny pack so you can touch up when necessary”, he adds.

Also invest in glitters that are suitable for use on your skin. “The ones we find in stationery stores, and which are commonly used during Carnival, are not suitable for makeup and can cause irritation and even injuries”, says Lavoisier.

How to have flawless glitter makeup

To ensure that your shine and makeup last, it is essential to start with clean, hydrated skin. “Firstly, wash your face well, tone and hydrate. Then apply sunscreen, a foundation or concealer that is resistant to sweat and water”, essential products in hot or rainy climates, says Kamura. With your skin clean, hydrated and protected from UV rays, Lavoisier recommends using a primer with a glow effect “so that the shine is not just in the glitter, but the skin also radiates this luminosity”.

Lighter skin can be achieved with just tinted sunscreen and concealer. With the makeup base ready, use a specific glitter glue to start applying the glitter particles. “Eyebrow gel or transparent gloss, for example, are good options to reinforce the ‘stickiness'”, says Lavoisier. You can carry these items in your fanny pack if a touch-up is necessary.

To apply the shine evenly, regardless of the area of ​​the face, and avoid gaps, use a brush with dense or flat bristles (square in shape). Kamura recommends pressing the glitter lightly into the skin to deposit the producer and not spread it. If you don’t have many props, Lavoisier’s trick is to moisten a cotton swab to make it easier to apply the glitter.

“The sparkles will stick more easily to both the cotton surface and your skin”, adds the makeup artist.

To make the look even more powerful when applying glitter particles, use an eyeshadow the same color as the glitter as a base. “If it’s creamy, even better. It guarantees a super vibrant result and a glossy effect, which promises to be a trend this summer both on the body and on the eyes and mouth”, says Lavoisier.

If you use gel glitter, reinforce it with glue underneath, as this type tends to move around the face with sweat and any touch. If it is a glitter eyeshadow, an eye primer is the best product to ensure durability and intensity.

Another tip is to choose to apply the glitter to the eyes before the concealer. This way you can correct any problems caused by glitter (if it spreads across your face, for example). Masking tape can be used gently to fix out-of-place pigments.

With your makeup ready, work on the fixative. Professionals recommend using a setting mist, which they consider essential when finishing any makeup. The product will guarantee the finish and resistance, whether it is a production with or without glitter.

To ensure everything stays in place throughout the carnival blocks, have a mist to hydrate your face, and carry a loose powder or powder sunscreen to help retain oil and protect from the sun.

After the day of revelry, when you get home, it is important to hydrate and remove all makeup. Soaps and removers with oil in their composition help clean your face without much effort. Cleansing oil, for example, is a good option.

“In addition, avoid products that have alcohol in their composition, both before and after makeup, as they can dry out skin that will already be, or will be, sensitized due to makeup and exposure to the sun”, adds Lavoisier.
