Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), released for judgment, on the night of this Friday (9), the process referring to the national nursing wage floor. The case had been stalled at the Court since May 24, when the minister requested a review, temporarily suspending its processing.

Last year, the National Congress had approved an increase in the minimum wage to be paid to nurses, in the amount of R$ 4,750, with nursing technicians earning 70% of that amount. The norm was questioned in the STF, and Minister Luís Roberto Barroso decided to suspend it until the financial impacts on the public coffers from the measure were further analyzed.

In May of this year, after President Lula (PT) sanctioned a law approved by Congress defining the funding for the new floor, Barroso revoked the decision that disallowed the granting of the increase. As of May 19, the Plenary began analyzing the Minister’s decision. Days later, Gilmar Mendes asked for a view – now, with the return of the process, the trial will resume in a virtual plenary from June 16th and will extend until June 23rd.
