A 1st Oktober Curitiba promises to be an exciting and culturally enriching event for the city. The capital of Paraná, known for its cultural and gastronomic diversity, is the ideal setting to celebrate the rich German tradition that the Germanic festival represents. Between the 12th and 15th of October, at the Positivo Events Center, in Parque Barigui, Curitiba residents and visitors will have the opportunity to taste high-quality craft beers from more than 100 taps and taste typical German cuisine. Tickets are on sale now and we’ve already shown the full schedule here.

But, what will there be to eat at Oktober Curitiba? In traditional gastronomy, there will be three establishments responsible for the operations: Bierwit Restaurante e Choperia, from Colônia Witmarsum, the very traditional Bar do Alemão and Essen Biergarten, both in Curitiba. Prices for dishes range from R$20 to R$95.

Bierwit, like the other two establishments, will bring its flagship product: Eisbein, traditional pork knuckle. “We were the first place in Paraná that started serving pork knuckles,” says Giovanna Smaka, chef and co-owner of the establishment.

At the restaurant, the dish includes the entire knee, but, to make it easier for the public to eat during the event, it will be served in cut portions alongside apple puree. The restaurant will also feature Currywurst, a portion of red and white German sausage with homemade curry sauce and fries. “This is an option that tends to please all ages, from adults to children”, comments the chef.

In addition, the public will have available Bretzel, a traditional German knot-shaped bread; and German pie. “We are very excited to have an Oktober near us. We have always held our own festival, in restaurants, but with a robust event it will be much better. We are happy to participate and bring our dishes and flavors to more people.”

Bar do Alemão will also carry Eisbein, and, like Bierwit, has adapted the restaurant’s traditional dish, which normally serves two people, to an individual portion. Accompanied by sauerkraut and potatoes, the dish promises a great combination. The public will also be able to try the German hot dog, pork mignon and the much-loved by Curitiba residents, jaguar meat. Those who love the traditional submarine can now celebrate, as it will be on the menu at Bar do Alemão.

“We are dreaming big about this Oktober, our expectation is that it will be a wonderful event. We are also participating in Oktober in São Paulo. So, we are very excited about so many events and having one in our city now”, says Lucimeri Guerra, manager of Bar do Alemão.

It will also be possible to try the traditional dish, Eisbein, at the Essen Biergarten, which will offer boneless pork knuckle, served with a mix of sliced Bockwurst and Bratwurst sausages and sauerkraut with Blumenau sausage. For lovers of good German pasta, Essen will serve Spätzle Blumenau, a traditional pasta made with eggs and served with Blumenau sausage ragu.
