The price of S-10 diesel at Brazilian service stations fell for the 14th consecutive week and reached R$ 5.57 per liter, according to the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels). The value represents a drop of 2.3%, or R$ 0.13 per liter, compared to the previous week.

The low cycle reflects cuts promoted at Petrobras’ refineries and should continue, as the state-owned company plans a new reduction next week. Since it started to fall, the average price of diesel S-10 was 13%, or R$ 0.82 per liter, cheaper.

The last diesel price cut was announced by Petrobras on April 28th. This Friday (12), the president of the state-owned company, Jean Paul Prates, signaled that a new drop should be announced next week, confirming information already disclosed by the government.

According to information leaked by the government, the cut in the price of diesel should be R$ 0.10 per liter. Gasoline should drop R$ 0.30 per liter and cooking gas, R$ 15 per 13-kilogram cylinder. While confirming the possibility, Prates told the Sheet that values are “guesswork”.

“The official announcement is made by Petrobras on the due day and at the due time, even in advance of the opening of the financial market. We are not breaking this rule and everything that is coming out of guessing prices, how much will go down and how much will not, is pure speculation of people”

A possible cut in prices responds to the decline in international oil prices. According to data from importers, gasoline sold by the state-owned company is now R$ 0.39 per liter above the import parity. Diesel is R$ 0.28 more expensive.

According to the ANP, the average price of gasoline also fell at the stations, after weeks of stability. This week, a liter of common gasoline was sold, on average, at R$ 5.49, down 0.5%, or R$ 0.03 per liter, compared to the previous week.

The price of hydrous ethanol, which was on the rise, also dropped to R$4.09 per liter. The value is 1.4%, or R$ 0.06 per liter, lower than last week.

With the impact of the high tax burden after the change in the ICMS collection model, the price of cooking gas rose 0.6% in the week, to an average of R$ 108.84 per cylinder of 13 kilos.

The possibility of reducing the price of this product in refineries was celebrated on social networks by government allies, including the chief minister of the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Paulo Pimenta, even before Petrobras confirmed the cut.
