Full Childhood Movement protects children against gender ideology

In the midst of attempts to expand the gender transition in children and adolescents in Brazil, a group of mothers and professionals decided to unite in a movement to raise awareness about the risks of medical, psychological and other interventions that are being used for this purpose. With the name “full childhood”, the movement emerged at the beginning of the Lula government, with the aim of fighting for the integral protection of childhood.

On the website, the movement reinforces that it has noticed an “advance in social pressure for the unquestioned acceptance of such interventions” for the “transition of boys and girls who do not have interests and behaviors considered socially accepted for a given sex”.

According to the creator of the movement, psychologist Celina Luci Lazzari, people need to have arguments to oppose gender ideology and defend the innocence of children who are in full transformation, and are still not able to discern their sexual identity.

“We quickly realized that the sale of the trans activist thesis, that children are in the wrong body, is going very fast, and that is why we realized the importance of organizing ourselves to bring a counterpoint to this narrative”, he says.

What actions by the current government would you point out as an attack on children?

Celina Lazzari – There is a very strong trend in this direction. Even recently, the National Health Council issued a very serious resolution in our view, in relation to the very idea of ​​the trans child. We question the very notion that a child can be labeled in this way.

Among the first actions we took in relation to the government was a request, in the form of an official letter, to the National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents [Conanda]now made up of some people appointed by the Minister of Human Rights, questioning the conception of childhood and asking for respect for the ECA [Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente].

We also questioned whether Conanda was understanding this possibility of sex change in children, because we realized that there are a series of terms that hide and make a euphemism in relation to what has actually been proposed, which are body changes and interventions. So, we asked Conanda for clarification and sent the same letter to parliamentarians, requesting attention to this request.

We also managed, through Congresswoman Franciene Bayer (Republicanos-RS), to hold a public hearing in June to start the debate on this issue. At this hearing, we requested the presence of representatives of the Psychology and Medicine councils, but they did not attend. And this is alarming, because they are two councils that issue resolutions and have positioned themselves with the possibility of the child being born in the wrong body.

How do you define the issue of gender identity in the face of activism?

Celina Lazzari – The genetic question is curious because there is an attempt to create a pseudoscientific ballast to be able to justify the interventions. There are no studies with scientific evidence, there are only surveys of low scientific rigor.

The idea of ​​gender identity is a cover-up, why what do we understand as gender? Gender is the social and sexual roles that we present based on sex and when we say gender identity we are referring to the roles that people present throughout their lives. For example: if a child has some roles, which are normally assigned to the female sex in society, then that child must be in the wrong body, which is a mistaken logic. That is, if you like pink, then you are probably a girl, even though you are in a boy’s body. And this is a misconception that has been propagated in a summarized and simplistic way. When we go deeper and check the reports involving these children, we realize that this is basically the case.

Even in the Mental Health Diagnosis of these children, when analyzed, this same level of concept is quite mistaken, relating preferences for toys or clothes with the gender of the child, which is a very old-fashioned and archaic thing today in our society.

What is gender dysphoria?

Celina Lazzari – It is precisely this idea that the child is not congruent with their gender. We did an analysis of this supposed diagnosis, because we realize that it is a term that is labeling and pathologizing childhood and the various variations that all children have, because children explore the world independently of the adult’s gaze and what is called a boy it’s a girl.

The American Psychiatric Association itself labels this and calls gender incongruence or gender dysphoria these series of manifestations, very simple in children.

A criterion that appears to say that the child belongs to another gender is, for example, when boys have a strong preference for wearing women’s clothes. Well, this is very common in childhood, experimentation, fantasy, play, children are not concerned about whether it is a boy’s or a girl’s outfit. We evolved to break down some of the rigidity of these definitions, that an outfit will define the genders of children, or that an outfit or toy is for a boy or a girl. So, I believe there is a setback and a pathologization of this behavior by children as if it were a dysphoria or incongruity in relation to their gender.

What warning do you make to parents about the content that children see about this in series or drawings?

Celina Lazzari – Parents have a very tough battle, because unfortunately all media and schools are being led to bring this as a rule and a new social morality. You have to have very strong bonds and dialogue at home, explain to the children and reinforce that you have to love yourself with the body you have, accept your own body. And it is important to be calm with the jokes, so as not to lead to a pathologizing sense.

It is also very important in childhood to avoid the use of screens as much as possible, because we lose a lot of control over what they are watching and the media is very strong in intervening in this sense, wanting to imbed this in children earlier and earlier.

Celina Lazzari – It is very sad that we have to create a law to enforce the ECA itself, because the child deserves to have his natural development and his body respected, without interventions.

There are many fallacies and lies about early sex change, related to pubertal blockers and the cross-hormonization technique. The blocker is recommended for those who receive this diagnosis at the beginning of puberty, when a drug similar to the hormone that stops the child’s growth is administered, in a very fanciful idea that she will have time to decide whether or not she wants to make the transition. The idea is to block while the child decides, as if it were possible to go back, and then start the hormone. For example, a girl starts administering testosterone, the male hormone, and vice versa.

But that has no going back. All of these interventions are very serious and there are no long-term studies and nothing solid to make such a drastic decision that has consequences for the rest of your life, you just need to read the package inserts for these medications to understand the seriousness. Furthermore, if the government and the institutions observed what has been happening with regard to this policy in some European countries, such as Finland, they would already go back and stop. However, we are seeing the opposite in the CNS resolution, trying to reduce the age of the hormone protocol to 14 years.
