Every player dreams of the highest point of his career: wearing the shirt of the Brazilian national team. To conquer the feat, you need to be persistent, because at some point the dream becomes reality. And for the player from Amapá Igor Paixão, that moment has arrived. The player was summoned by coach Ramon Menezes, on Friday (18), to play two friendlies on September 7 and 11 for the Brazilian Pre-Olympic National Team. Igor, 22 years old, is the first player from Amapá to be called up to wear the shirt of the Brazilian national team.
“Hearing my name on a list for the Brazilian national team is a dream come true. It’s knowing that all the sacrifice was worth it and that work can’t stop. It’s the highlight of my career, a boy who left Macapá, in the north of Brazil, and is reaping the rewards. I would like to thank God and my family for their support at all times. Also to Coritiba, Feyenooord, my Staff and everyone who contributed to this journey. Eager to wear and defend the colors of our country”, wrote Igor in his social network.
After the list was announced, Ramon Menezes spoke about the selection of Igor Paixão and the highlight he had in Dutch football. “We are now bringing Igor Paixão, who will wear the shirt of the Brazilian national team for the first time. He is a player who has been playing very well and, for that, he was remembered, ”said the coach.
Recently, the Amapa native of quilombola origin stood out in European football and won the Dutch championship title for the 2022/23 season with Feyenoord Rotterdam.
Igor had great visibility at Coritiba, the last club that played in Brazil. In 37 matches for Alviverde in 2022, he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists, in addition, he was champion of Paraná with the team. After the highlight, he was sold, in the same year, for 8 million euros (equivalent to R$ 41.6 million), the main negotiation in the club’s history.
The man from Amapa began his journey in the football world at the age of seven after spending time playing for São José, the Zico 10 football school and teams from the Pacoval and Novo Horizonte districts, in Macapá. In addition, he wore Londrina’s shirt between the years 2020 and 2021.
In a recent interview for the Daily Communication System, Igor talks about his dream of defending Brazil one day, and it finally arrived.
