The seminar on updating the Brazilian Civil Code and the new Argentine Civil Code, held this Friday (1st) in Buenos Aires, had a low attendance and the last panel, in which Minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the STF, would give a lecture and Senator Rodrigo Pacheco, president of the Senate, would be honored, was cancelled.
The event, held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), was part of the Cycle of International Studies in Comparative Law, an initiative promoted by the magazine “Justiça & Cidadania”, and was attended by renowned jurists and experts, both nationally and internationally.
Among the guests were Luis Felipe Salomão and Marco Aurélio Bellizze – president and vice-president, respectively, of the commission of jurists responsible for updating the Brazilian Civil Code –, João Otávio de Noronha, Herman Benjamin, Mauro Campbell Marques, Isabel Gallotti and Marco Buzzi .
In addition to ministers Salomão and Marques, the academic coordination of the seminar included the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), minister Alexandre de Moraes, and the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina, Ricardo Lorenzetti.
The program sought to encourage discussion about the most recent global legal trends, providing an environment for the exchange of experiences and the sharing of practices between judges and experts from Brazil and other nations. The program was divided into six panels that addressed subjects such as fundamental and personality rights in the digital era, the future of company law and the influence of the Argentine Civil Code on the law of obligations and contracts.
In this edition, after the last panel, in addition to the tribute to senator Rodrigo Pacheco, minister Alexandre de Moraes, minister Herman Benjamin of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and Tiago Santos Salles, executive editor of the magazine, were also invited to speak. This part of the event had to be canceled due to “lack of time”, according to authorities.
In order not to go unnoticed, official sources stated that the speakers would speak at the dinner held at the Alvear Palace Hotel after the seminar. There, in addition to Pacheco, Minister Edson Fachin, vice-president of the STF, would also be honored.
The seminar, which was delayed by more than two hours, was considered a “failure” due to the low attendance of spectators. Despite being a free event, only around forty people were present, including the speakers’ guests.
