Former street kid, shoeshine boy and, today, lightweight MMA athlete, Alan Nuguette will be honored at Manaus City Council (CMM) with the award of the Alfredo Barbosa Filho Gold Medal

“I’ve never seen a São Paulo native more from the Amazon than Alan Nuguette”, although this could be a pun on Vinicius de Moraes’ famous phrase. Alan Patrick da Silva Alves, or Alan Nuguette, the former street kid and athlete who made his name for the world in the State of Amazonas, will be honored with the Gold Medal, this Thursday, (5/18), at 1:30 pm, in the plenary of the City Council of Manaus (CMM), located at Avenida Padre Agostinho Caballero Martin, 850, Santo Antonio, West zone.

“Come on, I’m from the North, that’s my slogan. Several times it was the name of Amazonas that I took to my fights in the UFC, because it was this State that welcomed me and taught me to fight even more for my purpose. Today I have a family and I live with them in the United States and I will always be grateful to Manaus and Amazonas. I also want to thank our President Caio André, who knows that my life is a never-ending race and who scheduled the delivery of the Medal to the Chamber”, said Nuguette.

Alan came to Manaus quickly to deal with projects and take the opportunity to see friends and give some lectures on social projects supported by Instituto Amigos do Alan Nuguette.

The Gold Medal is a proposal made by the former councilor of Manaus, Elias Emanuel (PSDB-AM) and will be granted by the president of the House, councilor Caio André (PSC).

“Alan Nuguette is an example of someone who managed to overcome his own barriers with a lot of effort. He has the character of a warrior, but for someone who reached the top where he is today, throughout his career as a fighter, he was not satisfied with titles and today he uses all his experience to hunt for new talent and offer opportunities to young people. that they need so much. Therefore, I think that this recognition by the City Council is a more than worthy tribute for someone who has social responsibility”, pointed out former councilor Elias Emanuel and proposer of the Medal.

The life story of lightweight high-performance athlete Alan Nuguette could be completely different. Born in Jacaraí, in the interior of São Paulo, a city he doesn’t know, he lived his life in an extremely poor and dysfunctional family.

“My mother left home and I lived in a one-room house with my brothers. Sadly, misery was our everyday life, but I always believed we could achieve more. Drinking and violence at home made me take to the streets, work as a shoeshine boy, hence my nickname Nuguette (name of the grease) and then live as a beggar on the streets of Brasilia”, said Alan.

It was through sport that Alan was rescued from the streets. Capoeira made him change his view of living on the streets and later coming to Manaus to start in jiu-jitsu and start dreaming of going to the UFC changed everything in his life.

“At the height of my career, I suffered an accident on the mat and had to have a complicated knee surgery, for many athletes this could be the end of their career, but I said that if I managed it, I would honor everyone who helped me and I am grateful to Mr. Beto who helped me and still helps me today and it was after that surgery that I managed to go to the UFC”, he says.

Being grateful is the trademark of this athlete, all the companies that sponsored Alan at some point in the past, today embrace the Instituto Amigos do Alan Nuguette, which today in Amazonas alone has the scope to support almost 2 thousand boys and girls in 17 municipalities , in addition to the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and the Federal District. Last year, the UFC itself paid homage to him on RJ’s card.
