In an interview with the program Jornal Gente, on Rádio Bandeirantes and on BandNews TV, this Monday (22nd), the former Minister of Defense and former President of the Chamber of Deputies Aldo Rebelo stated that Ibama was based on a false survey to prevent the drilling of an offshore oil exploration well in Amapá, at the mouth of the Amazon. Last week, the Institute denied Petrobras an environmental license for a pre-operational test in the region, necessary for oil exploration plans in the so-called Equatorial Margin (a region on the high seas that extends from Guyana to the State of Rio Grande do Sul). North).
“Ibama assumed or assimilated an opinion from the Public Prosecutor’s Office based on a falsification of research that was offered by Greenpeace, which falsified research from the Federal University of Pará”, declared Rebelo.
Rebelo recalled that the area where the tests would be carried out is around 170 kilometers from the coast of Amapá and 500 kilometers from the mouth of the Amazon River. For him, Ibama’s decision was political and harmed the country. “A part of the oil exploration resources goes to a social fund that is destined to the protection of the environment, the defense of education and health. A part of these resources is to benefit the whole country”, he declared.
The former minister believes that what is behind are international interests represented in the Ministry of the Environment, which supports the ban and which tries to establish the logic of an “ecological sanctuary” in a region where 25 million Brazilians live.
