The former minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), General Gonçalves Dias, asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this Wednesday (24) not to be obliged to appear at the MST’s CPI, in the Chamber.
On the last 11th, the commission summoned the general to explain the actions of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) in monitoring land invasions that occurred in the new Lula government. Abin was linked to the GSI, but in March it passed under the umbrella of the Civil House.
The deposition was scheduled for next Tuesday, August 1st, at 2 pm. According to the investigation of Veja magazinethe defense of the former minister argues that the summons “appears to be predominantly political in nature, with the aim of embarrassing him”.
If the Court does not grant permission for the former minister to miss the hearing, the lawyers ask that Gonçalves Dias have the right to remain silent on questions that are unrelated to investigations into the MST, and that he can be accompanied by the defense.
Gonçalves Dias left the command of the GSI in April, after videos released by CNN Brazil show the general inside the Planalto Palace during the acts of vandalism on January 8.
