Former Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who worked as a manager at Ajax, a club he also defended as an athlete, has been hospitalized after suffering a brain hemorrhage in Croatia, where he was on vacation, the Amsterdam club said on Friday (7) , which classified the former player’s state of health as “stable”.
In a short statement, Ajax announced that Van der Sar “had a cerebral haemorrhage on Friday and is currently in a hospital, in the intensive care unit, in a stable condition.

Van der Sar, 53, was vacationing on an island in Croatia when he suffered the hemorrhage. He was taken by helicopter to a hospital.
The former Dutch international resigned at the end of May as Ajax general manager, claiming he was “exhausted after nearly 11 years on the board”, although the club asked him to remain in the role until Aug. this year.
As a player, Van der Sar shone with the shirts of Ajax, Juventus, Manchester United and the Dutch national team. His return to Ajax, to act as a manager, took place in January 2012. Just over three years later, he was promoted to general manager.
