For Lewandowski, Zanin has the stature to succeed him – 06/21/2023 – Panel

For the retired Justice of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Ricardo Lewandowski, the lawyer Crisitano Zanin is up to the chair occupied by him until April.
The former minister told the Panel that he believes he will do well in the Senate hearing to which he is being submitted this Wednesday (21) because he has “no edge” and is not “ideologically nuanced”. He spoke with the Panel after participating in an event organized by Esfera Brasil and CNI (National Confederation of Industry) on tax reform.
Lewandowski counters criticism from opponents that Zanin would be PT. In the jurist’s assessment, he only advocated for former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), which does not commit him.
“The lawyer does not have, like the judge, he has no impediments, he has no suspicion, he has a client. I was giving an example as a doctor, who is a cancerologist. It is not because he is going to operate on a cancer patient that he will be left with cancer. They are professionals like you, journalists. You sometimes have a position, you interview someone. This does not mean that you are, shall we say, committed to an idea”.
Retired since April, Lewandowski said he has been keeping busy and still hasn’t missed the STF. But he highlights what he considers important within his trajectory.
“What I think is that the Supreme Court allows you the following: to make history. There are decisions that make history, right? For example, I was modestly involved in the issue of racial quotas, an important turning of the page. Even the issues of citizen guarantees before the judge, other important issues, such as the pandemic. In the supreme court you, in a way, are a political protagonist “, he points out.
“But everything in life has its moment. Now we are on the other side, pleading”, he comments about his new phase.
