For businessmen, Tarcísio emerges as a candidate in 2026 – 05/07/2023 – Panel SA

Businessmen and bankers are already betting on Tarcísio de Freitas as a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026. The governor of São Paulo, however, says he prefers re-election.

On condition of anonymity, Panel SA heard from three bankers, two investment fund managers, two large industrialists, and three major retailers since last week, when pressure from governors in Congress intensified against the tax reform.

For them, Tarcísio gained national prominence with this reform, even giving up this Wednesday (5) discussions around the council that, according to the reform rules, will decide on the distribution of revenue to states and municipalities.

Two of the bankers believe that there was a political strategy behind Tarcísio’s actions, who, alongside Ronaldo Caiado, governor of Goiás, concentrated conversations and attention with deputies.

Tarcísio, however, vehemently denies his willingness to dispute the Planalto. He claims, behind the scenes, that he prefers re-election in view of the sympathy of the business community and the São Paulo financial market.

The governor has said that he does not want to risk losing the presidential election which, in his assessment, will have President Lula as the representative of the left on the other side.

However, businessmen and bankers were unanimous in stating that Tarcísio is, at the moment, the name indicated for a right-wing candidacy. For them, depending on Lula’s performance, the governor will have great chances.
