Fluminense races against time to register Marcelo and has a short deadline until the Carioca semifinal

Fluminense is not yet classified mathematically for the semifinal of the Campeonato Carioca. But he knows that only a disaster takes him out of the competition. While focusing on the dispute for the title of the Guanabara Cup against Flamengo, this Wednesday, at 21:10 (Brasília time), in Maracanã, the tricolor also divides its attentions to register Marcelo within an increasingly shorter period.

Main signing for 2023, Marcelo still does not know if he will be able to compete in Carioca. This is because Ferj has not yet released the updated table of the semifinals, but the prediction is that the games will take place between March 12th and 13th, on Sunday and Monday, respectively. In the regulation, the registration limit goes until the penultimate working day before the beginning of the semifinal. That is, on March 9th, this Thursday.

“For the remainder of the competition – with the registration limit up to the penultimate working day of the Carioca semifinal – only athletes registered up to the penultimate working day preceding the start of the respective round and whose registration appears in the BIRA, with no pending issues, will be able to participate. , until the last business day preceding the respective departure”, says the section of the regulation.

The time limit is up to 19:00 (Brasília time). Until then, Fluminense will have a race against time to register the reinforcement and make it ready to play in the semifinals. Internally, the deadline is considered short, but the tricolor is confident that it can still be available.

If this is not possible, Marcelo will be registered to compete in the Libertadores, the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Brasileiro. In these competitions, there is no risk of the left-back being left out.

Marcelo signed a contract with Fluminense until December 2024, with an option to renew until the end of 2025. The playmaker is one of the great jewels of the club’s youth teams. In 2005, aged just 17, he was promoted to the professional ranks, taking full ownership of the position the following year. The athlete defended the tricolor armor in 40 matches and scored six goals. For Team de Guerreiros, he won the titles of the Carioca Championship and the 2005 Rio Cup.
