A Fluminense fan was killed and another was injured this Saturday night (1st) in a bar around the Maracanã stadium after the first match between Flamengo and Fluminense in the Carioca Championship final.
The Rio de Janeiro Fire Department was called at 11:15 pm on Saturday and when it arrived at the scene, it found one of the victims of the shots dead. He was identified as Thiago Leonel Fernandes da Motta, 40 years old.
The other victim is hospitalized, according to the Civil Police. No information about her health status was released.
The bar, which is close to the access to the gates of the south sector of Maracanã, was full after the match between Flamengo and Fluminense. Videos that circulated on social networks show the moment when at least nine shots are fired and fans duck to protect themselves.
The main suspect in the shootings is Marcelo de Lima, a Criminal Police inspector who was not on duty. He was arrested red handed by the Military Police.
The Civil Police reported that he was booked red-handed for the crime of qualified homicide for futile motive and attempted murder. He will be forwarded to custody hearing and will be available to Justice.
Preliminary information from the Civil Police indicates that there was a discussion between those involved. The author pulled out the firearm and shot the victims.
In a note, the State Department of Penitentiary Administration reported that it repudiates any act of violence committed by its servants and that an Administrative Disciplinary Procedure will be opened to determine the involvement of the Criminal Police inspector.
