Lawyers Floriano de Azevedo Marques and André Ramos Tavares took office this Tuesday (30) as effective justices of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The nominations were accepted by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) hours after the Federal Supreme Court (STF) sent a quadruple list approved by the Court to the Presidency of the Republic.

Lawyers Edilene Lobo, linked to the PT in Minas Gerais, and Daniela Borges were also on the list, but they were passed over from the nominations. According to the Constitution, it is up to the President of the Republic to appoint the lawyers who make up the court, informed Agência Brasil.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, in addition to other Judiciary authorities. The TSE is composed of seven ministers, three from the Supreme Court, two from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and two lawyers with notorious legal knowledge.

In addition to the new ministers, the effective vacancies belong to Alexandre de Moraes, current president, Cármen Lúcia and Nunes Marques. Gilmar Mendes, Dias Toffoli and André Mendonça make up the vacancies of substitute ministers from the STF.
