Flight at R$ 200: government offering cheap ticket – 03/13/2023 – Market

The federal government intends to close an agreement with airlines to sell tickets at BRL 200 for retirees, students and civil servants, said Minister Márcio França (Ports and Airports). Only those with a salary below R$ 6,800 will benefit.

This would be possible with the occupation of idle seats on career flights, said França in an interview this Sunday (12) to Correio Braziliense. The program would be a request from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

“Brazilian companies reach around 30 million passengers, each one of them operating with 78% to 80% of vacancies occupied. Another 20% leave empty”, stated França to the newspaper.

According to the minister’s calculations, it would be possible to offer 14 million to 15 million tickets for R$ 200 per year.

The government’s plan is to sell these tickets via the Caixa Econômica or Banco do Brasil application. “These are people who already have their income linked to us, students are the exception. We have to find a financing mechanism”, said França in the interview.

Each beneficiary of the program would be entitled to two round trip tickets per person per year for a total of R$800. This would allow you to take a companion on the trip.

According to França, the government intends to offer installments in 12 interest-free installments.

The plan still depends on acceptance by national airlines. The BRL 6,800 income limit would prevent regular commercial flight customers from taking advantage of the program and compromising the companies’ sales.

“It’s another public, we have 90 million passengers today, but only 10 million CPFs fly. See how absurd, 90 million tickets issued per year, for only 10 million people”.

The design announced by the government is inspired by the old Caixa Econômica’s program Melhor Viagem for the elderly. “I spoke with the president of Caixa, I think it will be easy. What matters is the political decision and the airlines have to want it”.
