The survey by the International Federation of Football Histories and Statistics (IFFHS)
Flamengo leads the list of the best club in the world in 2022 with 299 points, according to the survey carried out by the International Federation of Football Histories and Statistics (IFFHS). Next to the podium with the current Libertadores and Cup champions are Palmeiras and Liverpool, from England.
The IFFHS ranking takes into account the results obtained by all clubs in the world in the 2022 calendar in all competitions. To score the clubs, the championships are classified into four levels of importance: in the highest level championships, each victory is worth four points and the draw is worth two; at the next level, a win is worth three and a draw is worth 1.5, and so on.
Champions League and Libertadores wins are worth 14 points, draws 7; in the Europa League or the Copa Sudamericana, a win is worth 12, a draw is worth 6. Therefore, Flamengo’s undefeated campaign in the Libertadores secured the most points in the ranking of the best clubs in the world. Rubro-Negro won 12 games and drew one, thus gaining 175 points, which represent approximately 60% of the total.
Flamengo’s possible rival in the Club World Cup, Real Madrid only appears in sixth place. Current Champions League champions, the club scored just 247 points.
In the top 30, other Brazilians also appear, such as São Paulo (12th), Athletico Paranaense (14th), Corinthians (23rd), Internacional (25th), Fluminense (28th) and Atlético-MG (30th).
