After losing the Copa do Brasil final to São Paulo, Flamengo seeks to recover from a year without titles in the last games of the Brasileirão
Flamengo and Bahia face off, starting at 4pm (Brasília time) this Saturday (30) at the Maracanã stadium, in a game valid for the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship. Both teams arrive at the match sunk in crises: one for having suffered several eliminations and not having won any title this year, and the other for finding themselves in the relegation zone.
After losing the Copa do Brasil final to São Paulo, Flamengo is looking to recover from a year without titles in the last games of the Brasileirão. This is because the team is in 7th position, momentarily outside the qualifications for next year’s Libertadores. In the midst of so many failures, Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli could not overcome the pressure and was fired last Thursday (28).
Bahia also arrives at the match with a loss. The northeastern club is in the relegation zone, in 17th place, with 25 points, and needs a victory this Saturday to get out of this uncomfortable situation.
In the last round, Bahia was defeated at home by Santos, in a direct confrontation that ended in a Santos upset. After these lost points, the team is looking to play a great game at Maracanã and come away with a positive result.
This clash will also mark the reunion between Rogério Ceni and Flamengo. Bahia’s current coach was Brazilian champion with Rubro-Negro in 2020, in addition to having won a Campeonato Carioca in 2021.
In the last ten games between the teams, Flamengo has the upper hand: there are eight victories for Rubro-Negro against just one for Bahia, in addition to a draw. Bahia’s last victory over the Rio team took place in 2019.
