Initiative aims to promote fish farming in the region, reducing production costs and generating income for 70 beneficiaries

Manaus (AM) – The State Secretariat for Rural Production (Sepror) and the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Development (Idam) delivered, this Wednesday (21), 93 thousand fingerlings (young forms) of tambaqui to fish farmers in Iranduba and Manacapuru (the 27 and 68 kilometers away from Manaus, respectively).

The initiative aims to encourage fish farming in municipalities that have productive potential in the activity in Amazonas, as highlighted by Sepror’s Executive Secretary for Fisheries, Alessandro Cohen, who monitored the deliveries of fry in the municipalities.

“Following the determination of Governor Wilson Lima and the secretary of Sepror, Daniel Borges, we are making a series of deliveries today in Iranduba and Manacapuru. In total, there will be more than 200 thousand fry for seven municipalities, reaching the metropolitan region of the state of Amazonas”,

said Alessandro Cohen.

To Iranduba, 50 thousand fry were delivered, directly benefiting 35 fish farmers. In Manacapuru, 43 thousand fry were donated to 35 fish farmers. The production of post-larvae and fry are distributed free of charge to rural producers who work in the activity.

“Now, fish farmers can farm and earn income in the future, which is a milestone here in the municipality of Iranduba. We have a lot of great work from several fish farmers selling fish and growing more and more”,

commented the president of the Iranduba Fishermen’s Association and Union (Aspepi), Lady Chelley Carvalho.

The deliveries were supported by municipal governments, with the participation of the Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Defense Agency (Adaf).

How to purchase?

Fish farmers interested in receiving fingerling donations should contact the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Development (Idam) in their municipality, or the municipal rural production departments to request the benefit.

It is necessary for the fish farmer to have a Rural Producer Card, issued by Idam, and to effectively carry out the activity.

More deliveries

Next Friday (23), three other municipalities will benefit: Maués, Tapauá and Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, which will receive a total of 66 thousand fry for 45 fish farmers.

The fry delivery schedule will continue until the end of February, in the municipalities of Rio Preto da Eva and Borba, benefiting 37 fish farmers with the delivery of 58 thousand fry. In total, Sepror’s calendar foresees the delivery of 202 thousand fry to 152 fish farmers in seven municipalities.
