First carbon neutral gasoline on the Brazilian market arrives at Petrobras Stations

Concern about environmental causes is already a reality for companies from the most varied segments, which are increasingly engaged in strategies aimed at minimizing the negative impacts caused to the planet. The information is from the CNN website.

Among them, Vibra stands out, leader in the Brazilian fuel and lubricant distribution market, which seeks to deliver a portfolio of renewable energies and compose solutions for a low-carbon economy, capable of meeting the demands of the energy transition and helping in the decarbonization of your customers.

Among the strategies adopted is the recent launch of Podium Carbon Neutral gasoline, sold exclusively by Petrobras Stations. High-performance fuel that has all greenhouse gas emissions neutralized by Petrobras, the gasoline supplier, through carbon credits, from production to use by the final consumer. Vibra, the country’s largest fuel distributor, is the licensee of the Petrobras and Petrobras Podium brands.

“We have a responsibility, as the largest fuel distributor in the country, to set an example and support our customers in their energy transition. Having carbon neutral Petrobras Podium gasoline at our stations is an important step in this mission. Our team works towards evolution, always seeking to incorporate technology and innovation into our products. We will continue to expand our presence and offer of the new Podium in new regions and markets so that customers across the country have access to products with more benefits and attributes”,

explains Vanessa Gordilho, vice president of business and marketing at Vibra.

Compensation at every stage

According to Petrobras, which exclusively supplies Vibra with the fuel, neutralization, via the acquisition and retirement of carbon credits, aims to offset GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions. The company measured GHGs emitted throughout the product’s life cycle using the “cradle to wheel” Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, which includes emissions from sources controlled directly by the company and also indirect sources of emissions when using the product.

Although the fuel is fossil and therefore emits GHGs during its production and use, the emissions are offset before sale to the consumer. The end user will buy carbon-neutral gasoline, fill up, drive their vehicle, and the emissions generated will have already been compensated. In this way, the compensation of emissions from the new Petrobras Podium Gasoline is guaranteed throughout the entire oil production, refining, distribution and consumption chain.

Innovation with Tecno 3 technology

Developed at the Petrobras Research Center (Cenpes) and sold exclusively at selected Petrobras Stations in the country’s main cities, Podium’s distinguishing features are the very high minimum octane rating RON 102 and the sulfur content below 20 ppm (parts per million). This is the best factory octane, obtained with the noblest currents of advanced refining processes. Added to this is Vibra’s additive technology, called Tecno 3, which guarantees engine cleanliness and protection, as well as savings with less maintenance required.

Petrobras Podium gasoline has been the official fuel for Stock Car since 2015, the country’s main automobile competition, and for the Lubrax | Podium Stock Car Team, whose drivers are Felipe Massa and Júlio Campos. Podium allows high-performance engines to reach the maximum power they were designed for, and its lower sulfur content preserves after-treatment systems responsible for reducing vehicle emissions.

Off the track, it is recommended for motorcycles or gasoline or flex fuel vehicles with engines with a compression ratio above 10:1, although any engine can enjoy its benefits. Its formulation guarantees even greater stability against degradation, protecting the tank and engine if the vehicle is stopped for a long period.

Petrobras Grid: more protection and less waste

Since last year, Tecno 3 additive technology has also been incorporated into Petrobras Grid gasoline and the result is the formation of 98% fewer deposits on the intake valves than regular gasoline, reaching a residue level three times lower than the previous version. from Grid itself.

Developed throughout 2021 and tested for more than 700 hours in laboratories and engines in Germany, the United States and Brazil, Tecno 3 has the most advanced friction modifiers, detergents and anti-corrosives, for lower engine maintenance costs. In other words, its formula reduces the formation of waste deposits and removes existing ones.

Tests carried out in the development of the Tecno 3 additivation demonstrated a three-fold improvement in wear protection and three times less deposit formation than the previous technology, in addition to an improvement in the cleaning capacity (deposit removal) of internal engine parts, such as for example valves, and the highest protection against corrosion. All these factors generate greater savings in car maintenance and greater efficiency in its performance, in addition to greater performance.

The use of the new technology represents a step forward in the additive gasoline market, leading to minimal deposit formation and providing more efficient engine operation. The development of Tecno 3 was concerned with guaranteeing performance in both new direct injection engines and more traditional indirect injection engines, in which it achieved excellent results.

By default, all tests start with a clean engine. However, to confirm the cleaning power of Tecno 3, an additional test was also carried out, with the valves already dirty. After a cycle of evaluations with regular gasoline and another with Petrobras Grid, its ability to remove 82% of this previous residue was demonstrated.

In terms of protection, Petrobras Grid demonstrated high performance in reducing wear and corrosion. The friction reducing agent greatly reduced the wear caused by friction, thus protecting the internal components of the engine (segment rings, pistons and cylinders). In the laboratory, wear protection of 53% was observed compared to regular gasoline and three times more protection than the previous Grid version.

Grid gasoline has also proven to deliver the highest level of protection against rust, as observed in laboratory corrosion tests. This same level of 100% protection was confirmed in the most severe conditions, when salt water was used in the verification.

“When Brazil moves forward, it comes from Vibra”

With more than 50 years in the market and a leader in the fuel and lubricant distribution segment in Brazil, Vibra provides the best energy and mobility alternative to its customers, aligned with the best ESG practices in the sector.

In the automotive market, the company holds the license to use the Petrobras brand, forming a network of 8,300 gas stations across the country. Licensee of the Petrobras, Petrobras Podium and Petrobras Grid brands, Vibra has the largest network of stations in the country, the most reliable and offering the best products and services on the market. Vibra Energia’s franchises for the segment are the BR Mania convenience stores and the Lubrax+ automotive lubrication centers.

Through its logistics structure, Vibra is present in all regions of the country, through a portfolio with more than 18 thousand large corporate clients from the most varied segments such as aviation, transport, industries, mining, chemical products and agribusiness.

Under the BR Aviation brand, the company has around 70% of the aviation market, supplying aircraft at more than 90 Brazilian airports.

In constant evolution, the company has already invested around R$4 billion in energy transition, through investments and/or the establishment of partnerships with Comerc, Zeg, Evolua and EZVolt.
