This Sunday (7), the Fazendinha neighborhood, in the South Zone of Macapá, will host the first Women’s Football Championship. A total of 10 teams will participate in the competition.
The event aims to encourage the practice of sports among women and promote the talent of female players. The city of Macapá, through the Sports and Leisure Coordination (Comel), supports the tournament by donating balls, trophies, nets and goalposts.
Among the teams confirmed for the tournament are Mazagão, Buritizal, Perpétuo Socorro, Santana, Igarapé da Fortaleza and Zona Norte.
The winning team will receive trophies and a cash prize worth R$ 1,500. The runner-up will also receive a cash prize of R$1,000. The expectation is of a fierce competition and of great technical quality on the part of the players.
“It is a crucial challenge that we need to face, because women deserve attention and we have the support of the public administration to hold the tournament. We worked collaboratively with the teams to establish the competition and we are confident that this Cup will be a catalyst for other elite competitions in our women’s football”, comments Marcos Araújo, event organizer.
For Comel’s coordinator, Bruno Igreja, the competition is of great importance for women’s football and offers an opportunity for girls to show their potential. “We promote the sport and it is satisfying to support a women’s competition at this level. For the girls, it’s time to show that women’s football in our state is still going to grow a lot, and Comel supports the tournament and sports practice”, he says.
The opening ceremony on Sunday (7) will be at 5 pm, followed by the disputes on the Pereirão Arena field.
