A recent survey by insurance startup Pitzi shows that for every 100 cell phones sold in São Paulo, at least 15 are subtracted, and that the Pro and Pro Max lines, from Iphone, and S Ultra, from Samsung, are the most targeted by thieves on the streets of the capital of São Paulo. In Brazil, the Motorola G line and Samsung A line models represent the most coveted phones.

The study shows that Apple and Samsung smartphones are 150% more likely to be stolen than other models in the capital of São Paulo.

The survey also shows that around 10% of São Paulo residents report incidents of cell phone theft every year and, by November 2023, Pitzi had recorded more than 6,000 incidents of theft and robbery throughout Brazil.

In relation to the average value of the most coveted devices, the research shows iPhones above R$5,000 and others from different manufacturers around R$1,500.

“iPhones still tend to be preferred on the underground market. This is due both to the high cost of smartphones and to the ease of finding device receivers and/or parts”, highlights Pitzi’s CIO, Marco Garutti.
